For this tutorial, you'll be able to make a case that flips open and stand on it's side if necessary. Of course it won't be as sturdy as the ones you buy in stores because of the material we will be using but it will be designed to your liking!
Here is another set of photos from my vacation this past summer. You can anticipate 2 more after this one LOL. Right after Seoul, my family and I flew to Jeju Island and let me tell you, I was pretty excited; this is like the getaway place that you always see in Korean dramas. If you like nature, this is the place for you to go. Oh, and if there's one thing you must eat in Jeju, it's their oranges! DELICIOUS.
This nature-filled photo set contains snapshots from Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, Samseunghyeol, Yongduam Rock, Sangumburi Cave, Jeju Folk Village, and Manjanggul Cave.

Here is the long overdue part 2 post about my trip in Seoul, Korea this summer. If you would like to look at pictures from part 1 of the trip, click here.
This photo set contains pictures from Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, Banpo Bridge, FOOOOD, and some random snapshots.
It rained quite a bit during the last few days I spent in Seoul. I just remember my shoes getting so soaked in the rain and still having to walk in them for most of the day. Squishy, cold water between your toes and the soles of your feet is horrible. I think what I miss most about Seoul is the food... gamjatang, seoulleongtang, jajangmyeon, bulgolgi, soondubu jigae, samgyetang, kimchi, and the list goes on yummm :D

Rarely (or rather never) do I dress up when I go to school. On a regular basis, I just throw on a simple top and jeans/comfy pants. The reason I dressed up a bit more today is because today is a big day for me. I'll be attending a ceremony at my school to accept a scholarship I was recently awarded! I am extremely honoured that I was chosen for it and I am nothing less than thankful. Those sleep-less nights and studying finally paid off!
Sorry for not posting for awhile! It has been a hectic midterm season (7 midterms and 3 assignments total) so I hope you understand my absence. Today, I'd like to share with you some pictures from my summer vacation with my family. Over the summer holidays, we had the awesome opportunity to vacation in several parts of Asia! Our first stop was to the beautiful city of Seoul in South Korea.
When I travel, I never dress well. I just don't have the energy to do anything in the morning when I travel with my family because my dad likes to wake up super early and end the day late. Never have I had a "relaxing" trip - always in a hurry to go to the next place!
This photo set contains just a couple of shots at Namsan Tower, the DMZ and surrounding areas, Myeongdong, and Korean Folk Village.

Anyways, as a continuation of my post last year, here's another first day of school outfit post. I've been really loving these red TOMS lately- I'm enjoying wearing some brighter colours before fall comes.
[A YouTuber with the name "withwendy" has a DIY tutorial video similar to the one I'm about to give with inspiration coming from the same piece of clothing. This tutorial is my own take on the blouse and is in no way using any ideas from her video]
When I made my first post on this blog on July 12, 2013, I was really excited to have my own public outlet to share things with everyone, my way. Blogging gives you a lot of freedom- you choose what to write and what to take pictures of. When I hit that "publish" button, I felt so happy knowing that someone would be reading my content.
Many of you don't know I had a blog before "A Splash Of Tan." I will not share that one with you because it has more personal posts that I do not wish for everyone to read. I do however want to share with you one excerpt that I had on a post I wrote about social media:
Right before I finished second year, I had a checklist in mind as to what I wanted to accomplish this summer. I decided not to take summer school this year so I had a lot of free time I needed to make productive.
- Find a part-time job
- Volunteer at the hospital
- Learn to drive
I am happy that I can check off all the things on my list! The hardest thing to get was a volunteer position at the hospital because they have so many applicants per year. They placed me in the NICU/pediatrics area! The families and volunteers there are so sweet which makes the shift a lot more rewarding.

In my community, there are a couple of forest trails open for anyone to go through. I haven't walked through them since last year and not much has changed. It's basically the same since I was 6! Trees, forest litter, small plants, little animals, and occasionally some deer sightings. The view you see from the trail is so concealed from what is off the trail. I went exploring in some hidden trails once in one of the forests and I saw an old mattress, chair, and umbrella. Was someone living there?! I quickly got out of there... paranoia from watching too many movies!
There are moments when I can't believe I'm 20 years old now. I don't even know what age I look like- I am sometimes mistaken as a high school student but other rare occasions am I mistaken for someone in their early 20s. My birthday was in early May and I spent my day playing PS3 with friends. I didn't get a chance to celebrate with family/friends on the day of because it was Mother's Day and my mom and sister weren't at home. I had a birthday dinner with my friends the day after though and this was what I wore!
The perks of having a sister who is the same size as you is getting to share clothes. The boots and the scarf I'm wearing are my sister's and she gave me the tee as well. Good thing she lets me wear her clothes or else I would have to sneakily go into her closet. With my sister, I go with the saying, "what is yours is mine."
There are a few colours I really like wearing: mint, light pink, navy, maroon, and now I will add this dark raspberry colour to it. It's not too girly but it still gives off a little feminine vibe with the skirt. Not to mention, the fabric was only $2 before tax. For the price of fabric in comparison to the price of a real skirt, I think that is why I will rarely buy a skirt over $15. When you start sewing some basic clothing items, store prices just seem outrageous.
I'm back! This has got to be the longest break I've taken from my blog but hey, I have one more week of classes until my final exams! To add on top of my excitement, spring is finally coming... I can feel it. The snow is sloooooowly melting. Normally around this time, most if not all of the snow would have been gone by now. I'm happy that the temperatures got slightly warmer today so I finally got a chance to break out my new spring jacket. I like how the gold detailing makes this jacket a bit different from the ones I've seen in other stores.
I know one of my biggest pet peeves is not having a pen around when I need one or having to search really hard in my bag for one. Here's the solution: a journal pen holder! You just simply wrap it around the cover of your book and you'll have something to write with wherever you go! Many journals are similar in size so this accessory can easily be reused. Below, I have two variations you can make.
If I ever had to describe my go-to outfit, this would be it: a cardigan and a not-so-basic top paired with jeans and boots/sneakers/flats. Sometimes I'm mind-blown by how simple and plain my outfits are (though I'm very comfortable in them). Like Joyce, can you not try something bolder and accessorize? I guess it's like how some people gravitate toward prints or lace, I just gravitate to solid colours and basics!
I love wearing skirts during the spring and summer time. The only problem I really have is that some of them don't have pockets! I mean, I could carry a bag but sometimes I want to put small things in my pocket without having to dig for them in my bag. Keep reading to learn how to make this easy skirt!
Floral print is one of those patterns that I consider to be a "happy print". It just seems to brighten up an outfit and it makes me so cheery! Polka dots gives me that same feeling but stripes isn't one of them. I don't know, does anyone else feel this way?
Our society today has built such an ideal look for women that is constantly being fed to us through the media. I think it can generally be agreed upon that among numerous cultures today, a skinny girl is preferred. I so happen to fall under that category, and it just so happens that I don't like to be reminded that I do.
I have officially completed the first week of my second semester! Honestly, my semester seems so relaxing because I have Mondays and Fridays off. Hooray for 4 day weekends! I think what I'm most looking forward to this semester is not my long weekend but rather that I can sleep in for two extra days. Let's hope that I don't begin to slack off! Challenge 1: still try to treat Mon and Fri as school days this semester. I have so much time now so I was planning on heading to the mall today. I got all dressed up and then being my indecisive self ended up staying at home. Well, here's my outfit!
